Artist: Dizzy (ABBA Cover)
Song: Happy New Year
It’s the third day of this project and I’m already “cheating” by including this song today. The song I’ve selected today was actually a song I heard yesterday for the first time. On top of that it’s actually a song I’ve heard dozens of times before, but in this case is a cover of it. What does my choice to ‘cheat’ say about me? To be honest, I’m not sure. The truth though is I’m also not really concerned about it. My intention with this project when I decided to commit to it was always less about strictly following it perfectly and more about exploring and sharing new music with others. I’m a firm believer that music really can save lives and 100% confident in the fact that it has the power to brighten someone’s day and that’s part of why I’ve undertaken this project.
This song really hit close to home for me. Growing up ABBA was a band I heard all the time. They were one of my mom’s favourite bands of all time. In her later days when she struggled a lot with her memory and focusing, we’d often play some of her favourite music for her. Within seconds you could see the smile on her face as she found joy in the music. ABBA was often a ‘go to’ choice for music. After getting back home from my Ride to Remember this summer, when I was still riding the high from it, one of the first bands I saw live at the Festival of Friends was this great band from Oshawa called Dizzy. I’ve written about my love for them a lot already so I won’t go into it again in any great detail besides reiterating that in my humble opinion they’re incredibly talented and worth the attention of any music lover. Of all the artists they could cover to hear them cover an ABBA song was quite a pleasant little treat! I hope others enjoy it as much as me!
365 New Tunes is a project inspired by a tweet from the band Stars on December 31st, 2017 encouraging people to listen to a new song every day of the next year.
RT if you promise to listen to a piece of music you have never heard before every single day in 2018.#musicsaveslives
