Song 5: Foals – Black Gold
Song: Black Gold
Even though it’s only been 5 days now, picking a song to listen to and share for the day has become a bit of fun process for me. Will I choose it randomly? Should I look up an unknown or new song from an artist I know? Should I ask someone for a recommendation? Should I focus on a song playing on the radio in someone’s car when I find myself in one? Will I hear something new at a live show? Thinking these questions over and reflecting on it has me feeling pretty grateful to have the opportunity to discover music in so many different ways. In the case of today’s song, I chose it after seeing it mentioned in the Instagram story of a music journalist that I follow. For those wondering the name of the journalist is Anna Alger. I’ve only read a few of her pieces – which were both about Stars and I absolutely loved them.
The song I’ve chosen from Anna’s Instagram story is Black Gold by Foals. To be honest, before listening I’d heard of the band and seen their names on festival lineups, but never made the effort to look into them. On a single listen I can’t say I loved it, but it certainly wasn’t bad. Also with a lot of music (at least for me), I grow more fond of it as I listen to it more and more so it’s pretty hard making any kind of meaningful judgement call. From what I see on YouTube it certainly doesn’t look like one of their hits so it also probably wasn’t the best song to start with when hearing them for the first time. Check it out and as with any of these songs let me know in the comments below what you think of the song.
365 New Tunes is a project inspired by a tweet from the band Stars on December 31st, 2017 encouraging people to listen to a new song every day of the next year.
RT if you promise to listen to a piece of music you have never heard before every single day in 2018.#musicsaveslives
