Song: Cover From The Sun
A lot of people may not know it, but I have my brother Mat to thank at least in part for my love of music. He was after all the one that first introduced me to Stars (which anyone who knows me knows is a band I love more than most things in this world). Growing up my musical tastes were also at least in part influenced by Mat as well. Of all my other siblings he’s really the only other that enjoys music like me. Well… if I’m being honest I’m not sure it’s fair to say he enjoys it LIKE me, but he certainly has a greater appreciation for it than my other siblings. In any case, this is really just a longwinded way of saying Destroyer is a band he’s been listening to for a while and one he’s suggested I check out for a while. I have no excuse (at least no good one) for not checking them out in any depth in the past. I really don’t know why I’ve put it off for so long. In addition to my brother’s recommendation, you’d think the fact that my pal Joseph Shabason (who has some amazing solo material and also plays one of my favourite bands – DIANA) plays saxophone with them and has toured with them in the past would have got me to look into them earlier, but somehow I’ve failed to do so.
Enough about the past though. The focus here is this song which I first heard on a Google Music playlist. Listening to it I was immediately curious to know who it was and was pleasantly surprised to learn my brother’s recommendation was once again a solid one. As I mentioned the song instantly caught my attention and had me wanting to hear more from them. It’s a great song from start to finish. I think this was finally the push I needed to go out and explore more of their music.
365 New Tunes is a project inspired by a tweet from the band Stars on December 31st, 2017 encouraging people to listen to a new song every day of the next year.
RT if you promise to listen to a piece of music you have never heard before every single day in 2018.#musicsaveslives
